Yumiko Matsunaga
Yumiko Matsunaga studied Textile Art at Meisei University in Tokyo and later Sculpture and Jewelry at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. She continues to work internationally from her base in Tokyo. Her practice explores the fusion of work and wearer, framing sensory perception as a universal language that bridges cultural and linguistic divides. Matsunaga correlates material qualities like softness or hardness with human character traits. Responding to a modern context where sensory engagement is often diminished, she places a specific emphasis on haptic perception. Through a varied material palette, Matsunaga seeks to awaken the senses and provoke new forms of experience.
